On Friday, Dec. 11, the Dazzlers and Dance Tech students performed their annual winter show in Seminole’s old gym.

Junior Olivia Ellis, a Varsity Dazzler, says, “[There has]  been a lot of pressure lately because we have to prepare for nationals and prepare for this show, so basically we’ve been running through the dances, trying to set it in the old gym in between classes. We’ve been trying our best perfecting the pieces we’ve already prepared for the holiday show.”

The show consisted mainly of two different dance numbers performed by the Dazzlers. The show started off with Varsity Kick, and JV Kick followed. Third in the show was JV’s performance to “Uptown Funk.” With its sharp arms and cool transitions, the routine has huge crowd appeal. Overall, the night was full of pirouettes, leaps, jump splits, and toe touches. The show also included dancers who were lifted up and the famous jump split.

In addition to having two class periods a day of dance, Varsity and JV Dazzlers also practice after school and on Saturdays. Many of the routines for the winter show were already learned, so the Dazzlers mainly worked on perfecting these. While a lot of focus had been placed on preparing for the show, Dazzlers have also been using this time to work on their new national routines.

JV senior Monica Lawler says, “The show is a great experience for any dazzler to perform in because it prepares us for the huge crowds [at] nationals.”

Preparing for the holiday show is very different from preparing for nationals. For the show, the performers worked on their stamina. However, for nationals, more concentration is put on the artistic aspect of the performances.

Varsity sophomore Akaya Mayhew, who also performed in the show, says, “I felt like we came together as a team and put our best effort in for the performance. I think we did a good job.”
