ALTERNATIVES TO PRICEY VACATIONS: ADVENTURES IN FLORIDA

Florida is known to be as one of the top tourism states. And one of the main reasons for this may be due to the fact that we have Disney World here. There are only two Disney attraction locations in the US: Florida and California. These theme parks are mainly designed for little kids. For teenagers, there are Universal Studios, Busch Garden, and many more. These theme parks are filled with ecstatic rollercoasters and such, but are also filled with big bucks.

Even with Florida discounts, these tickets aren’t easy to purchase. For instance, a normal Universal ticket costs $85, and with a Florida discount, its $73.99. Plus with economy down pouring, such expensive tickets are quite hard to afford. But no worries my fellow noles, there’s a simple solution to that. Actually there are many solutions to that, and they’re right in front of our eyes.

For instance, Florida isn’t called the sunshine state for nothing you know. Florida is covered with beaches. In fact, it has one of the words top 10 beaches, South Beach. Student Hassanain Ladhu states that he loves south beach because “it’s full of life.” It also includes many top beaches in the US. And best of all, it is free and fun for all ages. Along the beach lines there are usually fun performances to watch and along with some rides. It’s also a place you can just go to relax. Junior Anjali Cherukuri says, “hearing the sound of the seagulls and the salty water gently brush over my feet as my toes nestle the warm sand.”

There’s also vast variety of dinner shows available. You could enjoy a delicious meal watching the night on a dessert come alive with beautiful performances with horses. Or go watch pirates come into action searching for long lost treasures in Pirates Dinner Show.

You could also have adventurous type of fun by kayaking, hang-gliding or other outdoor adventures in various state parks. A place near Seminole that offers hang gliding near Seminole High is the Sanford Zoo, and for kayaking there’s Blue Spring Park. These are just a few of the locations for adventure such as these. Florida is a coastal state, so there are many other areas that may have a more tropical place for these exotic activities.

If you still want Disney, go take a nice stroll at Downtown Disney. It’s filled with wonderful gift shops and many extracurricular activities, such as their Lego section. They also have varieties of dinner places based on Disney Characters and themes. Universal also has its fun nightlife opportunities at Universal City Walk. Student Shayna Solomon says, “I like how it doesn’t feel like boring Florida. The night life is cool.” It has live music playing often and it’s a wonderful place for a walk. And best of all, both of these places are free.

There are many exciting places to go in Florida. Just look at a newspaper or stop by at a hotel brochure section, choose a location, and go and explore.
