On Dec. 18, 2015 the new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” movie will be released in theaters. Many Star Wars fans are excited to see the continuation of George Lucas’ saga, set to take place 30 years after “Star Wars: Episode VI- Return Of the Jedi” (1983).

Freshman Jasemine Rodriguez notes, “I am planning on seeing it opening night. I was obsessed with it from a young age; it was like nothing else compared to other movies and has grown with me. When I first saw the trailer I screamed.”

Star Wars fans come in all ages. The first installment of the Star Wars saga came out in 1977, so the action-filled series is close to many fans’ hearts. Some original actors, such as Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, will be seen in the new film.

Junior Braden Osburn notes, “One of my favorite characters is Hans Solo. He’s a cool guy, funny and witty.” Box office predictions estimate that this classic will top the popular film “Jurassic World” that came out last June with a $1.6 billion box office.

Senior Dominic Montas comments, “Due to exams I’m not seeing it opening night, but I hope it’s good. I know Disney took it over so I hope it’s not just pixie dust. I’m anticipating some action.” When asked of a memorable fan moment, Montas replies, “I tried picking up the remote with the force from my couch; my mom has it all video taped.”

The creator of “Star Wars”, George Lucas, sold the famous “Star Wars” franchise for $4.05 billion. Lucas is using the majority of this money to be donated to Education.“I am dedicating the majority of my wealth to improving education,” says Lucas. “It is the key to the survival of the human race. We have to plan for our collective future- and the first step begins with the social, emotional, and intellectual tools we provide to our children. As humans, our greatest tool for survival is our ability to think and to adapt- as educators, storytellers, and communicators our responsibility is to continue to do so.”  He is also the founder of the George Lucas Educational Foundation.

Seminole High School has been well prepared for the upcoming “Star Wars” film. With excitement at an all time high, bands have played theme songs from the “Star Wars” films and students plan on viewing the screening on opening night, despite the long awaiting lines and low capacity of seats.

Many are anticipating the film’s release this Friday and it is expected to receive mixed reviews.
