MUST-SEE FALL TV

Every fall, television networks lure teenagers into watching their new fall lineup with their extensive trailers. Here is the list of the top five TV shows that appeal to the teenage brain. There’s a show for drama lovers, game show enthusiasts, and action junkies.

Once Upon a Time

The writers and producers of the monumental show Lost have created the new ABC drama Once Upon a Time.
A 28-year-old bail bonds collector, Emma Swan, has managed to take care of herself since childhood. After meeting up with her son Henry (that she gave up for adoption 10 years ago), Swan moves to Storybrooke.

Her son believes that she is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, claiming that her parents sent her away so that she would be free of the Evil Queen. Swan is disbelieving at first. Her son tells her that in Storybrooke, time is frozen and no one is allowed to leave because bad things happen.

All the residents of this mysterious town are fairytale characters, such as Snow White, Rumplestiltskin, and Jiminy Cricket. There’s just one thing: they don’t know who they are and the power that they have.

Swan must defeat the Evil Queen in order to save Storybrooke and its residents from its evil clutches.
Sophomore Ishika Khondaker says, “It’s too scary for me.” She encourages others to watch it, though.

Smash

From executive producer Steven Spielberg and the producers of Broadway legends Chicago and Hairspray comes the new hit show Smash.

Karen, portrayed by American Idol’s Katharine McPhee, is a tenacious young actress and singer. After many a failed auditions, she comes across Julia and Tom. They’re successful songwriters and are trying to create a Broadway production about Marilyn Monroe.
In order to produce a hit Broadway show, they need a lead Mrs. Monroe. Ivy, a Broadway veteran, is a shoe-in for the spot, until Karen comes along. She blows Julia’s and Tom’s minds with her breathtaking voice.

The show becomes an intense battle for Marilyn Monroe’s part between Karen and Ivy. Only opening night of the Broadway show can tell what the fate of the two young women will be.

Smash will premiere mid-season on NBC on Mondays at 10/9c.

Sophomore Courtney McGonegal is looking forward to the show. She says, “I like it because of the arts. I like any show that has anything to do with either dancing or singing.” McGonegal thinks that this show will inspire people to follow their dreams and that it doesn’t matter where they come from.

Person of Interest

This new show stars Emmy Award winner Micheal Emerson as the ominous Mr. Finch. He built the government a system that can sort through every email and phone call for terrorists plots.

Reese, played by Jim Caviezel, is an ex-CIA agent. He gets thrown into Finch’s bizarre plan to save people that the system he created spits out.

The only issue is that they don’t get a name or a time or a place. All they get is a social security number.
With Reese’s CIA skills, Finch’s brains, technology, and money, the two of them must race against the clock to prevent the crimes before they happen.

Sophmore Kyle Mueller says, “I think that the whole idea behind this show is really cool. The idea that the whole plot is based on government conspiracies and the fact that they’re able to track everything that goes on is really cool, especially because a lot of it is actually true as far as cellphone tracking is concerned.”

Terra Nova

The year is 2149. The world has fallen to pollution and overpopulation. Most plant and animal species have become extinct. The people of Earth can’t even breathe because the air is so polluted.

Scientists have found a way to teleport humanity 85 million years into the past. They call that world Terra Nova. They’ve set up a colony and are hoping to recreate humanity and do it the right way this time.

The Shannon family is one among numerous others that join the first colony in Terra Nova. Jim and Elisabeth Shannon’s son, Josh, is rebellious and doesn’t want to move to Terra Nova or leave his old life behind. He’s quickly drawn to Skye, a teenage girl who loves to break the rules.

Apart from having to start their entire lives over, the people of Terra Nova must keep from the dangerous outside terrain; not only are there carnivorous dinosaurs, there’s also a group of renegades who don’t agree with the way the leader of Terra Nova, Commander Nathaniel Taylor, runs things.
