Curious minds packed into the room for HOSA’s first interest meeting, ready to see what this club has to offer. The interest meeting for HOSA kicked off with a warm introduction last Thursday, where officers shared the club’s missions, goals, and opportunities the club offers.
What is HOSA, why does everyone want to join this club? Well, HOSA is a student-led organization that empowers high school students and college students to get ready for work in the healthcare field through leadership skills, such as teamwork and problem solving. The club attracts many students due to the various opportunities the club opens, such as earning community service hours, a chance of earning scholarships, and exploring more of the medical field for people looking to learn more about the career .
During the interest meeting, the officers warmly welcomed the freshmen and new members to the club, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere. They explained the club’s rules and emphasized the importance of attendance for both participation and personal growth. The officers also talked about various levels of competitions available through HOSA. By sharing this information, they encouraged students to get involved, develop their skills, and take full advantage of the opportunities the club offers.
Maggie Sun, an IB sophomore, who is also an HOSA officer expressed how HOSA has helped her get more involved in a competitive atmosphere, as well as providing an opportunity to help the community.
“Joining this club gave me the opportunity to compete with so many people who shared the same goals and interests as me while getting to do a lot of networking.” She also adds that the club “provides fun events for a good cause, while also providing volunteer hours.” Her experience in HOSA clearly shows how the club has helped her and countless other students to grow both personally and professionally. In the same way, many officers shared their journey in HOSA during the interest meeting. Another member of the club, Lydia Kuriakose, a Health Academy junior, has conveyed why she joined the club. She says, “I joined HOSA because I was interested in the medical field and found it as an opportunity to learn more about the different careers in the field.” Her reason for joining Hosa reflects the very purpose of the club’s interest meeting, giving new members a chance to meet current members, and discover the opportunities the club has to offer for them.
In summary, the interest meeting has given attendees an opportunity to learn more about the club. This was an exciting way for attendees to see the benefits of joining HOSA.
