GREAT READS FOR FALL

Sitting down to read a good book might just become a student’s dream come true this year. This fall, students should prepare for a great variety of books to hit the library shelves, and maybe even their own!

With lots of different genres to choose from, students can expect many different types of books to read. Some of the world’s most famous authors, such as J.K. Rowling and Zadie Smith, released their much anticipated adult fiction novels in mid September.

Smith’s book, NW, is said to “absorb philosophical ideas” and is “notable for its social acuity.” The book is about for young adults who explore the different battles of life.  Rowling’s book, A Casual Vacancy, was described as “sometimes funny” and “full of cruelty and despair.” It’s about an old British town that has lots of depressed people and it’s full of swearing and cruel criticism- a dark and gloomy read.

Sophomore Tyler Shea said, “I’d like to read J.K. Rowling’s new book because I want to see what she’s going to do outside of the Harry Potter series.”

Other fictional novels, such the series Iron Fey are about to hit book stores as well, with the second book of that series, The Lost Prince. Freshman Jessica Patel said, “I want to read The Lost King by Julie Kagawa because the concept seems interesting.” The book is about a boy, Ethan, who goes on a long journey full of mysteries.

On the other hand, some non-fiction novels are getting huge praise this fall as well. Listening In by Ted Widmer is about the secret White House recordings of John F. Kennedy that’s getting lots of buzz. Also, Kurt Vonnegut’s book Letters is a non-fiction book that tells about his life and his loved ones that’s getting a lot of talk this fall.

Besides the usual non-fiction and fiction novels, even some anime-like books are getting a lot of hype this fall. Sophomore Vanessa Esteban Diego said, “I’m going to read Kuroshitsuji (a.k.a. Black Butler) because it’s a series I’ve been following for quite a while now and the characters are really interesting and I love the plot.”

Even though only a few books were mentioned here, there are so many more books that are about to get released this fall, and there’s sure to be a book for everyone to enjoy! Just about every genre of books are going to come out this fall, and everyone should get the chance to read at least one of these books.
