One of the most popular pasttimes for anyone is to attend the local movie theater. In the Central Florida region there are tons of different movie theaters to choose from. The difference between each individual theater is what movies they’re playing.

Due to the amount of commercials it would seem that fall’s most awaited movies are Thor: The Dark World, Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters, The Butler, and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

Senior Caleb Gardner said that one of his most anticipated movies is Thor (The Dark World). “I loved Thor, and I’m excited to see what they do. It has to be entertaining.” The movie Thor: The Dark World follows a god on his quest to save his home and Earth.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters follows up on a young boy’s journey through Greek mythology. It is the sequel to Percy Jackson: The Lightening Thief and brings to life the books written by Rick Riordan.

The Butler details the life a butler in the White House during the height of the race movement. It’s acclaimed to be a powerful and insightful story that is coming out on August 16.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones brings to life another world of hunters, monsters, and adventure by following the beautiful written works of Cassandra Clare.

Junior Alyssa Montero said, “I read the book which was pretty good and I want to see how well the movie will match up.”

A more detailed synopsis of each of these movies (and many more) can be found at imdb.com.

Only time will tell which movie theater will pick up future movies, but one can agree that movies provide a past time that few activities can match. The past summer has announced many new names in the entertainment industry.

A few names that were announced this past summer include: Despicable Me 2, The Lone Ranger, The Conjuring, R.I.P.D, The Wolverine, and Turbo.

Several websites help weed out the more undesirable movies by giving them a rating. One of the more popular websites is Rotten Tomatoes. It lets readers know how each movie turned out by handing out either a red (good) tomato or a green (bad) tomato. Websites like these can help when deciding which of the many movies viewers should see. It also tells which genre they are which can help in determining whether or not to watch it.

Junior Kaitlin Pickens said, “I like action movies because their suspenseful and it draws me in.”

Movies are coming out constantly and the only way to find out which movie stands out above the rest is to go out and watch them. The next time a free night or a little extra time comes around, spend it watching one of the many anticipated movies at a local theater!
