Miley Cyrus has been a star ever since she was born to singer Billy Ray Cyrus. She started her career when she was very young by playing minor roles in the movie Big Fish and the show Doc. Her real fame began at 13 when she was casted for the leading role in the former hit TV show Hannah Montana.

Cyrus starred in the TV show for four seasons, produced two movies as part of the Hannah Montana franchise, and released a Hannah Montana soundtrack before she broke away from the iconic Disney image. Cyrus starred a in few movies afterward, including Disney’s Bolt.

Freshman Somia Pati said, “I thought [Hannah Montana] was  good role model to little girls. She lost it when she became Miley Cyrus.”

Her first hit was a pop song called See You Again, which made the Billboard’s top ten while she was still performing as Hannah Montana, and her second was Fly on the Wall. Following the end of her Hannah Montana career, Cyrus’s acting career died out and she began to focus on her budding music career.

Junior Rachel Michaelson said, “No, I don’t think [her career is over], the talent’s still there; if she wanted to go to pursue her acting career she could still do it.”

A year after the end of Hannah Montana, Cyrus came out with her first rebellious album, Can’t Be Tamed. She sold 102,000 copies of the album, and the album peaked at number one. She also began appealing less to children and more to adult crowds.

Cyrus’s new album Bangerz has brought her back into the spotlight. On June 9, 2013, her song We Can’t Stop was released and drew quite a shock from her audience due to her references to molly, a club drug, and her twerking during the video. She drew more attention when the video for her song Wrecking Ball came out. The video included a wide variety of close-to-nude images, the riding of a construction ball, and creative uses of sledge hammers, to say the least.

“I like how Miley is making the twerk more well known, but I think she should keep her tongue in her mouth . . . I miss Hannah Montana,” said freshman Nic Fields.

Cyrus released her album Bangerz on October 4, 2013. The album sold 270,000 copies two weeks after its release, three of its songs have been radio hits, and the album itself was rated 70 by Billboard.

Miley Cyrus is recognized as one of the most successful artists coming from Disney. Cyrus starts her Bangerz tour February 14, 2014 in Vancouver, BC and ends it on April 24, 2014 in Uniondale, NY.
