As an assistant principal, Mr. Greg Register has a list full of duties. Some of his tasks include overseeing the math department, ROTC department, credit retrieval, and credit reinstatement. He also deals with at-risk students, transition students, all senior activities, and black history month. His game plan is to follow his motto, “prior proper planning prevents poor performance.”
Mr. Register said, “I like working with kids. There are many days that I wish I was a teacher again. The teachers have such an impact; you know you deal with that kid every day. As an administrator you don’t have that direct contact and I know our job is very important, we deal with many issues and we make them end.”
Mr. Dale Phillips said, “A lot of people don’t know this, but Mr. Register is my son-in-law. He is very organized and enthusiastic, and he is doing well as an assistant principal.”
What’s the best part of being assistant principal? That would be the faculty, students, and overall school. There are many opportunities for students and it is a unique place. Mr. Register said, “SHS has such diversity and is a great place to learn how to be a responsible young adult and how to function in our world and be a positive part of it.”
However, being assistant principal comes with challenges. He said, “There are so many things that we want to fix, but being a school of 3,000+ kids you have to have some rules. You’d love to bend them for everybody but you can’t. When you start bending rules then you have chaos.” Later Mr. Register went on to say that it is very rewarding to help students work through problems and see them develop.
Sophomore Emily Armogan said, “Based [on] how Mr. Register acts around campus and on NDN he seems really cool. He looks like he wants to be here and he reminds me of Mr. Gaudreau.”
Mr. Register grew up right here in Sanford. In high school he played football, baseball, and was in National Honors Society and Key Club. His goals were to be a teacher and a coach, and he succeeded. He taught math and coached football along with other sports. He has been a student, teacher, coach, and dean at Seminole.
At the end of the day Mr. Register has a job that he enjoys. It takes a certain kind of person to do a job like his, and he wants to make sure that he does his job well.
