OUR SCHOOL’S TRADITIONS

Seminoles longtime traditions in action.

Our school is over a century old: a hundred and twenty-one years old to be exact. In all that time, a remarkable culture has formed at our school. Seminole High School (SHS) is known for its amazing football record, its many players and all the games that they have won. With time that has passed, countless traditions have been created.

Traditions are an important thing to have at a school, especially one like SHS, a school with such a large population. With so many students, they may feel distant from one another. When a school has traditions, it makes its students feel more connected together. Culture and traditions is what the high school experience is all about. High school is a time to make core memories and learn about oneself. Everyone is learning about themselves at the same time, students feel alone, being part of a community makes the figuring out process easier.

“I really like being part of a big community, all the pep rallies, and games and all the other events and their amount of people really shows just how much of an impact our school has made on the students that go here“ says Ana Agosto, a freshman.

Dazzlers: Not every school has a group of dazzlers. But, at our school, they are a big deal. They contribute a lot to our school and how other people perceive it. Their lively performances hype up the students at our school and binds them together. Most high schools, if not all, have cheerleaders, but not dazzlers. The dazzler group is a small group, but it makes a huge difference on our school and overall community.

Grad Bash: No doubt, senior year is a year full of monumental events. One of them being grad bash. Grad bash is a field trip that our school provides specifically for seniors, it is usually held at the end of the year.

Senior Crowns: At the mark of their final year of high school, seniors get to decorate a crown. The crown symbolizes their status and their next step. The crown should be decorated to represent themselves, their passions, and interests.

Homecoming Parade: Days before the long awaited event of homecoming, there is a parade held. Our parade is held in Downtown Sanford. There are all kinds of clubs and groups. Such as, band, art club, and it is also where the final homecoming court is announced.

Spirit Days: Our school has annual spirit days. For example, pink out, school colors days, cowboy day, and much more. The spirit days are usually the same every year. Which creates a tradition.

The students at SHS enjoy the wide range of activities. Stacy Alcius, a 10th grader, had this to say, “My all-time favorite SHS tradition would have to be our school’s lunch pep rallies. Just because they really lift the spirits of the students and hype up the football players.”

Every school year is very different. With a different school year comes different experiences. Our school creates traditions that occur annually. That way, all the students that have ever referred to themselves as a Nole have the same sort of high school experience compared to other past-noles. High School is not just about school, it is also about the countless memories that a student makes there. Having traditions makes a school more of a community, which helps students feel less alone in their milestone before entering adulthood. Students feel more included, and they also feel like they have a place in which they truly belong.
