An upcoming senior event called Project Graduation is scheduled for May 26 from 10 P.M. to 2 A.M after graduation. The event will be taking place at the Sanford Civic Center and is an opportunity for seniors to hang out with their friends and fellow graduates in a safe and enjoyable environment.

The event includes a multitude of exciting attractions and events, such as a video game truck, hamster balls, inflatable games, air-brushed shirts, caricature artists, a DJ, and karaoke. There will also be a raffle that gives graduates the opportunity to get items that will be useful for college, such as TVs and laptops.

Senior Rashida Wilkinson says, “I’m just looking forward to hanging out with all of my friends for one of the last times before college. I think it’ll be fun, but bittersweet too.”

Project Graduation has received donations from several organizations and associations both in and out of SHS, including: Athletic Boosters, the Thespian troupe, County Office, Leadership, the Art Club, the Sheriff’s Office, Leonard’s, the Interact Club, The Seminole Newspaper, and others. Admission costs $20 at the door, and early bird specials are available as well. When an attending senior buys a ticket, they also receive a raffle ticket for the evening.

Assistant Principal and head of the Project Graduation staff, Mr. Dale Phillip, says, “Project Graduation is an idea a lot of high schools had for years—some went to Wet N’ Wild and other places, but we decided to try and keep it local in the city of Sanford. We have inside and outside stuff and give away a lot of nice door prizes—we’ve given a car, a motor scooter, mini fridges, and a lot of other stuff.”

The Project Graduation staff has meetings the fourth month of every Monday to organize the event. At the meetings, the parents, students, and faculty attend to discuss new ways to improve the celebration. The staff of Project Graduation is committed to making the commemorative event a great time for all.

This senior celebration is a great way to bond with friends, obtain useful items for college, enjoy scenic Downtown Sanford, and to have a good time before departing for college or other future endeavors.

Senior Kasey Myers says, “I think the raffle’s a good idea since we can get things we might need for college. It seems like [Project Graduation] will be pretty fun.”

If seniors are unsure about how to celebrate graduation, this special occasion is definitely something to consider. The food, games, raffle, and pleasant atmosphere all will create an entertaining and enjoyable party to recognize the class of 2015, so make sure to check out this fun, lively, and entertaining upcoming event!
