SEMINOLE SWIMS TO VICTORY

SEMINOLE+SWIMS+TO+VICTORY

On October 16, 2013, Seminole High School’s swim team competed in the FHSAA Class 4A State Meet. The boys’ team finished fifth overall and the girls’ finished 19th. Kara Vachon placed third in the girls’ 50 yard freestyle and Chad Mylin’s time of 21.10 seconds in the 50 yard freestyle qualified him for the USA Junior National meet in December.

The boys’ swim team placed one spot better than last year, maintaining a long streak of placing within the top ten of the state.

Mr. Bruce Wynia, father of sophomore swim team member River Wynia, remarked, “No one thought they’d get back there; a lot of seniors graduated and just getting back there is a huge deal.”

Senior Alex Chen said, “It was a great experience. I was a little disappointed in my individual placing but I felt that the relays did well overall.”

The performance in the state meet followed a strong showing at the Seminole Athletic Conference Meet on October 16. Seminole’s girls came in fourth against nine other Seminole County high school teams, while the boys came in first place, beating other competing Seminole County boys’ swim teams by over 150 points.

Seminole High Schools girls’ team won the 200 yard free relay by 0.36 seconds with Kara Vachon coming in 2nd in the 100 yard free with a time of 54.71 seconds, missing first by a narrow margin of 0.25 seconds.

The boys won the 200 free relay by 5.08 seconds and Chad Mylin won the boys 50 yard free relay with a time of only 21.64 seconds.

Senior Chad Mylin commented, “We try to stay as much as a team as possible and one person’s accomplishments are everyone’s accomplishments.”
