Kay Williamson, Seminole High School’s Director of Guidance, is well-known and loved by many of her students. Williamson has been at SHS since 1993 and has been the director of guidance for the last three years. As an SHS alumna herself, she is devoted to making SHS a better place for students and faculty. Her door is always open for academic and personal advising.

The role of Director of Guidance entails many things, but a key part of her job is dealing with customer service, organizing financial aid and college nights, and managing the annual class registration. Being able to personally influence the lives of her students gives Williamson all of the motivation she needs to succeed in such demanding tasks.

“I love watching all of my students grow, but especially my juniors and seniors, who are so close to making it out into the real world,” Williamson said.

Williamson’s career in education spans far beyond guidance. She speaks Spanish fluently and taught the language at both Seminole and Lyman High School before starting her career in guidance.

Outside of the guidance office, Williamson enjoys going to New Smyrna Beach, watching football and lacrosse, and going shopping. She especially loves the high-end fashion designer Tory Burchenough to name her cat after her! Someday, the guidance counselor wants to travel to Italy and Spain, but for the next five years she plans to remain at Seminole.

Williamson has received very positive feedback from students from all areas of the school, such as sophomore Jaley Rivers.

Ms. Kay is like our Seminole mom,” Rivers said. “She has taken care of all of us, including my siblings and all of their friends. She is so special and has a true love for Seminole High School as a former SHS student, cheerleader, teacher and counselor. She really cares for all of us.”
