On May 13th at 7 pm, the orchestra celebrated the end of the school year and seniors leaving with a final concert of the year, their Spring Performance! All the artwork was done by Ein Wesley, the art director. The concert was packed with performances from all groups and celebrated the graduating seniors.
The concert opened with a piano solo to the song Golden Hour as the audience got settled into their seats. Following was a performance from the Camerata Orchestra which performed two songs, Gap of Dunloe and Jupiter Rising (The Planets). The spotlight then dimmed to the corner of the stage with the Chamber String Quintet performing Colors of the Wind from the movie Pocahontas. With the spotlight turned off and the lights back on the main stage, the concert orchestra performed two more songs with Jurassic Park and Dragon Dances. Then came another smaller performance with Chamber Spring Quartet performing Molto Allegro (Quartet No. 2 in D Major). The next group, the Philharmonic Orchestra, performed Furusato and Night Shift. Following was a smaller performance by the Concert String Trio with The Water is Wide. Next came a performance by the Symphonic Orchestra with the song Dragonborn from the game Skyrim and a collection of songs from the game Minecraft. Switching to another smaller group again with the Concert String Trio performing The Ash Grove. With the Chamber Orchestra performing Elementa: Flights of Fancy, Terra, and Fire and Ice as well as the song Kashmir by Led Zeppelin featuring an electric guitar and bass in addition to the orchestra. With one more small group performance, Chamber String Quintet performed the song, No Way To Relax When You’re on Fire, along with a singing performance.
Following these powerful performances, a short break to appreciate seniors and the community began. The game “Minute to Win It” was played to help raise funds for the orchestra, where it included orchestra members running around collecting cash from the audience. Following this fun game was a senior slideshow video showcasing all the leaving seniors as well as photos, childhood photos, and future careers. After each group performance, senior awards, outstanding musician awards, and most improved awards were awarded to members.
After the short intermission, the seniors within the orchestra gathered to perform the song No One Is Alone. With the final performance being from the Symphony Orchestra, along with a special appearance from band members, with the song American Landscape and The Moldau.
Orchestra put on an amazing performance this year as well as with this spring concert! It is sad with seniors leaving, though orchestra will have even more performances next year. Stay tuned for those!
