As 2020 comes to an end, many students are starting to set their 2021 New Year’s Resolutions. Resolutions can be used in many ways to help students with multiple different things such as holding them accountable for achieving the goals they strive for, whether they want to earn all A’s or get into shape. These resolutions help not only students, but everyone set goals for themselves to achieve during this new year. Resolutions can range from many things such as academic or personal goals, and whatever it may be, it is always good to set new goals for yourself at the start of each year.

It may be hard to motivate yourself and to remember these goals that you set for yourself, or maybe you don’t know where to start to achieve your goals. It always helps if you write your resolutions on a piece of paper or a sticky note and place it somewhere you look every day to remind yourself that you will achieve these goals and to push yourself to keep going. Even setting a reminder on your phone or computer to try to achieve these set goals will get you farther and produce an outcome you strive for.

Some students want to achieve certain fitness goals. It may be wanting to lose weight or even wanting to gain weight. Certain people want to have a lean figure and build muscle and others want to have a slim figure. Across the board, fitness goals are one of the most popular New Year’s Resolutions. These fitness goals help remind yourself anything is attainable.

Health Academy Sophomore Rayna Haque states “One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to build muscle, this will help my body become stronger, and it will also benefit me mentally.”

However, other students may not have a fitness resolution set, instead, they might want to change academically or mentally. Some teens set resolutions that will help them receive their desired grades in school. These resolutions may consist of studying at least one hour a day, or completing all your homework before you can play video games. There are also mental goals that students want to achieve including doing something that makes you happier or focusing on the people that make you joyful in life. Any resolution is possible if you set your mind to your desired outcome and focus on how amazing you will feel after you achieve this goal.

Not only are there fitness, academic, and mental goals, there are always goals for certain sports students may play. Some students want to become a better athlete, increase their speed, or even dedicate more time a day for their sport. They are reaching for an improvement in their activity which includes becoming a better teammate on and off the field or developing better sportsmanship.

Seminole High School Sophomore Michelle Lopez says “I set a goal to become a better lacrosse player, I will achieve this by spending more time practicing, building up my strength, and working with my teammates on certain drills we struggle with so we can work together and improve as a team.”

Overall, New Year’s Resolutions are a helpful way for many individuals to keep pushing themselves to reach their goals and become better people. As many know, 2020 was not the best year, resolutions can be a healthy coping mechanism to make 2021 your year. These resolutions are there for you to make your year better and improve as a person in many different ways. You can do it!
