Toddler beauty pageants- do or don’t?

Toddlers these days….what are we going to do about them? Most people are enraged at the fact that their “little angels” would even be entered in a confidence diminishing experience. Others however, believe that toddler beauty pageants are a confidence booster for the young children. There’s so much controversy about this topic that they have even made a reality show about it-“Toddlers and Tiaras.” With all of this attention, though, the question still remains-are toddler beauty pageants a good idea?

When it comes to this topic, most parents have various viewpoints on it. Most moms and dads say “It is giving kids the wrong idea about natural beauty, and it turns these children into little snobs.” These pageants require six or more hours of preparation, and keep in mind these kids are only three to four years old. They have to get their hair styled, get their makeup done, and have wardrobe changes. These all seem like things that thirty year olds do in pageants! But some of the toddlers’ parents disagree. “My child thinks that it’s so much fun, and they get to rock what they’ve got,” says one of the contestant’s mothers.

Sometimes you can’t change someone’s opinion about something, however, sometimes you can. We can’t convince these parents if it’s a good idea or not, but we can show them the facts. These pageants may have hours of preparation and stress, but to some people it’s worth it. It’s up to you whether this is a good idea or not, but keep in mind….they’re your “little angels.”
