And with that, the 2025 season, almost, comes to an end.
Whether you tried new fashion items like quarter zips and added a Labubu to your jeans, ate dubai chocolate, or kept saying the phrase “67,” this year really was a whirlwind of new styles, pop culture, and some definite long lasting memes. By the time you searched up what a meme meant, another one had already popped up. Some may call this year boring, but others will miss the crazy trends that came along with it.
Starting off strong with the Italian brainrot that took over everyone’s social media pages. The use of AI transformed the memes unexpectedly, and people would choose their favorite brainrot like ‘ballerina cappuccino’ or ‘tralalero tralala.’ For some reason, no one really knows how the phrase “67” started, but some say it was through a kid on TikTok. Even teachers at SHS started adopting the term, and even started using it in the classroom to somehow appeal to the students. While other teachers would meaninglessly say it while teaching, and classmates would share a laugh. IB Math teacher, Mrs. Stump, says she heard it from her 6 year old, and she incorporates it into “passwords for Ecampus quizzes” too. Most of her students “love it, but when [she] uses it some of them groan.” One such person is Pre-IB chemistry teacher Ms. Polk who got so tired of hearing the phrase that she banned it from one of her class periods entirely.
Then, the unexpected food obsession of dubai chocolate and more interest in matcha began. Boosting feminism, sipping on matcha, and listening to artists like Clairo deemed a new term known as ‘performative.’ Hong Kong artist Kaising Lung took society by storm with his figurine called Labubu. People went to crazy lengths just to snag one, while Pop Mart went viral for having long lines of people waiting at extremely early times and paying high prices. The evil but somehow cute looking furry creature sparked a lot of controversy, but it became a global collectible accessory.
2025 also marked the end of many popular TV shows and franchises such as the highly awaited Squid Games Season 2 and The Summer I Turned Pretty (TSITP) Season 3. TSITP slowly released episodes every Wednesday and started in the summer. Many viewers switched up their thoughts about who Belly should end up with at the end of the season, and many proud Bonrad lovers from the start rejoiced at the end. And of course the highly awaited Stranger Things Season 5 finale with Volume 2 dropping on Christmas! The fanbase has been intense for the franchise so far, and fans are anxiously awaiting for the finale, some being disappointed that it is dropping on such a special holiday, as it is heard many characters will die. Not to mention the crazy fan theories that arose about popular character ship: Byler, between Will Byers and Mike Wheeler, after many supposed hints in the show.
Although 2025 seemed to have more crazier and more AI replicated trends, it will definitely go down as a year that made no sense yet still was memorable.
