The drama, the angst, and the supposedly romantic professions are back. Bridgerton has returned with season four. Based off of the hit novel series featuring eight books by Julia Quinn, each season features a member of the Bridgerton family and the person who will eventually become their beloved. The first season focused on Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings. The second season focused on Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma. The third season focused on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. Finally, this fourth season focuses on Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek. Each season is vastly different from the last. Whether it be the characters themselves or the tropes of their story, it is certain that each season delivers what the fans hope to see.
After thoroughly enjoying seasons one and two, and facing a little disappointment with season three, fans are excited to see the redemption that season four brings. The first two seasons had an air of modesty and light colors while season three featured more bold outfits and styles. Fortunately, season four has delivered with the pastels and simplicity that many enjoyed from the first two seasons. IB sophomore Naga Sudhabthula has not had the chance to start watching yet, and is “trying to avoid spoilers” because she loves the show and is extremely excited to watch the new season. It totals to eight episodes split to release four episodes within two parts. The first part already aired on January 29, and the second part is scheduled to air on February 26.
Spoilers ahead!!!
While every season is different, this one may seem the most unique of the bunch. While the first three’s main characters were nobility, this season is based off of the classic fairytale, Cinderella. While Benedict is the son of a viscount, Sophie is a maid. Well she does have a noble father but she was born out of wedlock and brought up with the care of her stepmother. After her father died, Sophie is made to work as a maid. Following the classic storyline, she attends a ball and leaves her “glass slipper,” namely one of her gloves, behind. The romance is a little more steamy compared to the fairytale and quite scandalous propositions are made. Said propositions have fans bashing the male lead because they are not the most romantic words to be saying to a woman.
Whether they will live happily ever after can only be told by time.
