On the spooky night of October 23rd at 7 pm, Seminole High School’s (SHS) orchestra had its fall concert to celebrate the season! Held in the KWC Performing Arts Center, the auditorium was decorated with Halloween-themed accessories like garlands around the stage, pumpkins, and much more. When you entered, you were greeted by fellow orchestra students dressed up in Halloween costumes to fit the Halloween spirit.
To start the performances off, Camerata Orchestra first performed Haunted Carnival, featuring a piano performance by Josiah Hidayat, then played Escape from the Dark Tower. Dimming the lights, Chamber String Quartet 2 took the corner and performed March Funèbre Op. 72 No. 2. With the lights back on, the Concert Orchestra performed three songs: The 31st Day of Oktober, Moonlight Tango, and Bats N’ Bones. With the spotlight back on, a smaller group of Symphonic String Quintet performed The Addams Family Theme. With this performance, the audience joined in with the iconic snapping seen in the usual theme song.
Following this was the Philharmonic Orchestra performing Valse Diabolique, (De)composition, and Metallurgy. Another smaller group performance, after, was the Chamber String Quartet 1 performing The Phantom of the Opera. Next, the Symphonic Orchestra performed Dance of the Shadows, Into the Shadows, and Dark Journey. The last small group performance of the night is the Concert String Quintet performing Shiver. The final group of orchestra performing was the Chamber Orchestra with Labyrinth, Phantom Waltz, and Graveyard Shift. For this group performance, director Mr. Moore was dressed as Gru, while members of the Chamber dressed as minions and other Despicable Me characters.
In the theme of the season, a costume contest was held by the orchestra with a contestant from each group of the Orchestra. Brian Huasupoma represented Camerata, Katheryne Hernandez for Concert, Kahalisa Lynn for Philharmonic, Sonya Kadir for Symphonic, and Akela Martin for Chamber. A QR code was shown that allowed audience members to select their favorite costume of the night. While everyone voted, the orchestra held the annual game of Minute to Win It as well. During this game, members of the orchestra run throughout the audience collecting cash for donations. After the game ended, the winner of the costume contest was Brian Huasupoma with a mad scientist costume. Once all those activities ended, the Chamber Orchestra came together for one last song of Halloween Spooktacular.
If you couldn’t make it to this performance of the orchestra, be on the lookout for future concerts, such as their holiday or spring concerts!
