For anyone searching for a binge-worthy show that blends mystery, humor, and emotional depth, High Potential could easily become their new favorite. The first season premiered in September 2024 on ABC and is currently available on Hulu and Disney+.
The show focuses on Morgan Gillary- a woman with an amazing IQ of 160. Morgan is a single mother just trying to get by with her job as a cleaning lady at the LAPD. She notices things and makes connections that others cannot, leading to her landing a job as a consultant. She mainly works with detective Adam Karadec, but can also be seen interacting with Lev Osman and Daphne Forrester. In each episode, she is presented with a new case to solve, but the overarching plot of the entire show is her search for her missing ex-husband.
Morgan originally accepted the job because she was told that the LAPD would help her search for Roman- her missing husband. At first, there were not too many leads making this part of the plot seem insignificant. Although as more information started to surface, Roman became a crucial plot point.
When IB sophomore Riya Malladi heard of the show, she decided to search it up and see what it was all about. After hearing the plot she “was intrigued and was planning on watching it.”
The first few episodes start out lighthearted, but as the show goes on, the suspense heightens. The first season ended on a cliffhanger leaving everyone wanting more. On September 16th, the first episode of the second season aired on ABC. The episode was a continuation of the cliffhanger from the last season, and it also ended as incomplete. However, the premier of the second episode satisfied the fans when the ongoing case was solved.
The release of the second season was a big hit after the sensational first, and although only three episodes are currently out, there is high anticipation for the rest of the season. Charvi Batchu, an IB sophomore, has not started watching the show yet, but “hopes to really soon.” She enjoys law and crime based shows such as Suits, so she is sure that she will “enjoy it.”
If you are a lover of blood, knives, and everything crime, make sure to check High Potential out for your next new favorite show.
