Once again, it is time for the annual SHS homecoming parade! Floats from different student organizations, pep squads, and of course, the homecoming court, line up the streets of downtown Sanford. Hundreds of proud residents cheered from the sidelines, in awe of the lively music played by the band and the dedication of the students in their stunning car floats and banners.
The parade took place from 5:30-6:30 starting from 1st street along Fort Mellon Park and ended near the Clock tower. The Dazzler team, HOCO court, JROTC, leadership, BSU, class council and many more came to the area around 3:30-4, to set up their floats.
The band also came decked out in their uniforms to practice before their huge performance, which ended up being a huge success for the crowd. A well-known drummer and IB junior, David Uy, says “my role in the parade was a snare drummer.” This year is his 3rd year being part of drumline and he thinks that “other than the unfortunate golf cart transportation for the homecoming court, this parade has been the best one [they’ve] played so far!” Each member of the court was gathered next to their couple pair, in their stunning dresses and suits. Much anticipation has been built over the past 2 weeks of voting and showing off why the student body should vote for a couple. The homecoming court King and Queen will be revealed at Friday’s football game against Spruce Creek.
This year’s homecoming theme was Coachella, and some groups like the Sophomore Class Council incorporated that into the design of their float. The parade ended up as a fantastic way to commemorate the amazing effort of all the student organizations in order to hype up the football game and show some excitement for homecoming on Saturday, October 18th!
