The HOSA Officer meeting on Thursday, March 27, was attended by a number of dedicated and motivated students who were all excited to take on leadership positions for the upcoming year. The event was both exciting and nerve-wracking, as each of the students applying had the opportunity to give a speech on their goals, qualifications, and passion for HOSA.
The most interesting part of the meeting was the diversity of perspectives each of the students had to offer. From their personal experiences in the healthcare field to their ideas on how they could improve HOSA, the students’ speeches were all genuine, passionate, and dedicated. After the students gave their speeches, they were then arranged in groups to undergo an interview on the positions they had applied for.
IB Junior, Aashni Popli, says “Running for president is really important to me because HOSA has helped me grow so much and has become a major part of my life. I want to make sure everyone feels included and heard. The meeting was a little scary, but it was also really exciting to see how dedicated everyone was.” Another officer, Snehansh Nanda, an IB sophomore, shares that “It was great to see how prepared everyone was. You can tell people actually care, and the group interviews showed how well everyone could work together. It makes me excited for what’s next.”
One of the highlights of the meeting was the presidential election, in which there were two qualified candidates, Aashni Popli and Oluwabunmi Oni, both are juniors in the IB program but are going to be seniors in the upcoming year. Both candidates had unique qualities that made it exciting for all involved in choosing which candidate would be the most suitable for the organization’s future.
Aside from all that was formally discussed during the meeting, there was also time for people to get to know each other. Snacks were provided during the meeting, which enabled all participants to get some rest and bond with each other. This created a sense of community among all participants.
Additionally, the meeting also reminded everyone of how important HOSA is, as it is based on connections and aspirations. Many of the candidates uplifted and supported each other, making this not a competition but a joint effort to better the chapter.
Overall, the HOSA officer meeting was a huge success. Aside from showcasing all that HOSA is capable of, it also set the tone for all future leaders.
