As spring begins and march comes to an end, this month has shown to be one of the busiest of the school year so far! From junior testing to senior college decisions, everyone this month has felt the pressure and stress. Though the stress isn’t the only thing this month offered, students were able to kick back and relax and enjoy events such as spring break, senior nights, states, and more. Altogether, March was a month to remember for students.
Starting off the month was a bit of a stressful time, with juniors just having taken the ACT the previous month of February, they now had to take the SAT at the beginning of March as well. With this serving as the first SAT many juniors have taken, the pressure was on. Some spent weeks studying beforehand while others may have just gone in hoping for the best. The one thing in common all students shared was the relief once it was over.
March was also an important month for seniors as many either received their college decisions or finalized where they were going. These decisions can be both exciting and nerve racking as it will determine where seniors will go for the next few years. Whether that be out of state or in state, or dorming or commuting, all of it opens a new chapter for their lives. Senior Kaley Stokes shares her tough decisions, “I’m stuck on deciding whether to attend the University of Florida or attend the University of Central Florida. I’ve been accepted for both but with UF I would have to wait a semester or two in order to dorm, meaning I would have to do classes online. But on the other hand with UCF, I am able to attend and dorm right away. I am excited for college, and in the end whatever I decide will be the right choice for me.”
Once exam week was over, students had a week of freedom from school with spring break! The week-long break lets students rewind and relax from the stressful few weeks beforehand. Some spent their time traveling, spending time with friends or family, or just chilling at home. Senior Sofia Antonio spent her break on a trip to Tennessee for the first time. “We drove there and stayed for about four days. We had car trouble and stayed in South Carolina for a night, but other than that the trip went smoothly! The town we stayed in was called Gatlinburg and it was beautiful. There were so many shops and restaurants and the surrounding area was gorgeous because of all the mountains. I went ziplining for the first time which was such a thrill and I’d love to do it again. I also played mini golf down a mountain which was super cool. My favorite part was walking around the town at night and seeing all the lights. It was the perfect trip, I’d love to go back!”
Another event seniors got to experience this month was senior nights for the sports teams they are a part of. These nights serve to recognize the seniors and their accomplishments and achievements throughout the years they have been a part of the team. Boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, and track all celebrated their seniors this month. More celebrations are guaranteed to come in April and May with waterpolo soon celebrating at the beginning of April.
Though the end of March is here, it gave memories and experiences that brought students together. With the fourth quarter just beginning, this last semester will be both a busy and memorable ending of the school year and senior’s last year.
