Ever wanted to showcase your skills in photography? Or display your love for nature? Seminole High School’s (SHS) has a competition for you!
How to participate?
During Earth month, SHS’s Environmental Club is hosting a photography competition! The competition is open to the whole school, and candidates have the potential to win prizes depending on where they place in the competition. To submit an entry, simply message Environmental Club’s instagram the photo, or photos you take. The competition is open until April 20th. Winners will be decided by April 24th. In addition, participants in the competition are expected to follow Instagram, so they can be notified if they win, or who the winners are. The instagram handle for Environmental Club is @shs_enviroprotection.
Why should you partake in the photography competition?
The environmental club encourages participants to enjoy the world around them. As the school day passes by quickly, observe the quietness of the nature around us. A bright green tree, a buzzing bee, or a flower blooming during the peak of spring. Take a minute out of the day to admire the beauty of nature. Spring time is the perfect opportunity of the year to demonstrate the beauty of nature. Therefore, do not be afraid to stop and snap a photo when you see a beautiful segment of nature! Submissions are limited to one per person. However, do not let that limit you from taking more than one gorgeous photo!
What is the goal of the photography competition?
SHS’s Environmental Club’s motto is to encourage others to pursue their passion for the environment, conservation, and wildlife. As a result, the Environmental Club is hosting this competition to provide an opportunity for students to explore their passion for the environment and photography. The photo can be of anything, and can come from anywhere. Additionally, the competition allows for students to expand their photography skills. As the club encourages students to dive into the beauty of nature, the Environmental Club also strives to encourage others to explore their passions.
What should participants do if they win?
If you participate in the competition, and want to know if you placed in the competition, make your way to Ms. Schmidlis room, located in Tomahawk room 008, on April 24th after school. Here, winners will be announced. First place receives a 10 dollar gift card, second place a 5 dollar gift card, and third place receives a plushie! This competition is a great opportunity to win a prize for working hard to capture the natural beauty of the world. Make sure to set a reminder in your phone and put the announcement date on your calendar. If you participate, you definitely do not want to miss when the winners will be announced! Look out for an instagram post later on the best photos the Environmental club decided on during the competition.
Students around SHS
Some students around SHS are aware about the nature photography competition. Leadership student body president and senior Saidah Thomas states that “capturing nature is a beautiful thing, and I think it allows people to take a second to reflect, even when they might not have access to the most beautiful landscapes.” Thomas says that the “nature photography competition helps improve our school by giving people a chance to actually realize what we have around us is very special and having so many trees and wildlife. [It is] an amazing thing to have around.” Health Academy Junior Caris Li-Ravinder says that “nature is a beautiful concept and a great way to share the nature around campus.”
Look out for the competition, go noles!
