The end of this school year brings on the beginning of a new one. Multiple clubs and teams are preparing for the upcoming year; one such club is the National Honors Society (NHS). In order to join and stay in NHS, students must maintain a 3.5 unweighted GPA, complete a mandatory 20 hours of community service each semester, keep the status of a student in good standing, and avoid disciplinary conflicts on campus. After filling out the application form, students are emailed regarding whether they got accepted or not, and if they were they attend the induction ceremony. The induction ceremony for the 2026-27 school year took place on Wednesday, April 22nd.
Rising juniors and seniors who were being inducted had to arrive at the KWC by 5:30 to ensure that everyone got seated smoothly before the ceremony started. At around 5:50 parents started entering the room to wait for the beginning of the ceremony. It started off with a small introductory speech by one of the sponsors, Mrs. Stump. She then invited Seminole High School’s principal Mr. Pfeiffer who gave a heartfelt speech recognizing the dedication of both the students and their parents. Once his speech was done, Mrs. Stump called upon the presidents of the club, David Uy and Nikitha Gaddipati who gave a short speech explaining what the club was about. They then invited their fellow officers to each explain the pillars of the club: leadership, service, character, and scholarship. Each officer then proceeded to light a candle in representation of those qualities.
After the introductory formalities had finished the ceremony moved on to what many would consider the most important part: the inductions themselves. New members were called up in alphabetical order to receive a pin and certificate of induction. Once all members had received these items, Mr. Stump, the second NHS sponsor, came up to give a small concluding speech. He presented two scholarships to two different students based on their hard work and dedication and appreciated the dedication all other members showed. The inductees then proceeded to go outside to take a large group picture on the stairs of Warrior Hall. New inductee Riya Malladi thought the best part of the ceremony was seeing “Mr and Mrs. Stump’s adorable daughters” who were showing their support with their shirts and helpful hands.
Overall, the ceremony stirred up some beautiful emotions in both parents and students as they accepted the honor of being in the National Honors Society.
