With the rapid approach of October comes one of the most anticipated weeks- spirit week! Noles excitedly got to show off their school spirit through crazy outfits and hairdos, eventually leading up to one of the biggest events of the year- homecoming! Inspired by Coachella- an annual festival consisting of many famous artists- this year’s theme was Nolechella, surprising many with its uniqueness yet exciting them at the same time. While students were off on Monday taking a break from their exams, the week started off strong with Tuesday’s team.
Day 1: 2016 dream
On Tuesday, Noles got to venture back in time to 2016, getting a taste of their younger self once again. Students were given the chance to dress up as any meme they wanted to, allowing students to get creative.
The campus’s air was packed with excitement and numerous forgotten memes resurfaced as well as some infamous ones. While there were various memes, a couple were more frequent and stood out against the rest- the lorax, chill guy, and the infamous six seven. Rishima Tiwari, a health academy junior, dressed up as a chill guy explaining: “I saw the meme awhile back and thought it was pretty funny. I also had the materials in my house so it was pretty easy to do, and I didn’t need to go out and buy stuff. I did make the ears though.”
Day 2: Wild West vs Neon Fest
While Tuesday’s spirit theme was from the past, Wednesday’s was a bit of both the present and past. Its spirit theme devolved into two opposite words, country outfits against neon ones. The campus was mostly filled with cowboy hats, boots, bandanas, and even inflatable horse costumes; while some wore brightly colored outfits with vibrant socks and even face paint. Jina Wang, a junior, explains: “I was mostly waiting for this day and had my outfit planned at the start of the week. I got this pink cowboy hat and already had some clothes that were related to the Coachella theme.”
The mix of both the country fits and vibrant colors created an electric atmosphere across campus, with everyone showing off their spirit.
Day 3: Stage Fits Only
With Thursday’s theme, we devolved further into the Nolechella theme. The campus was transformed into its very own festival, with many even bringing speakers to liven up the mood. From niche singers to infamous icons, students got to dress up as their favorite singers.
A particularly common one was Bruno Mars with his signature look featuring black curly hair, red silk pajamas, and thick gold jewellery. Other popular ones included Soulja boy with his streetwear, The Weeknd with his red suit and sunglasses, Future with his long black coat, Sabrina Carpenter with her signature pink outfits, and Taylor Swift
Day 4: Bokey Headliner
To end off the exciting week, students were decked out in orange and black decor, following the school’s theme “Bokey Headliner”. Students wore bright orange shirts, all black outfits, and even face paint featuring the school’s logo and colors. Whether it was the teachers or students, everyone got the chance to come together on this day to truly show off their spirit. Besides the people, the campus was also adorned with black and orange with banners and posters all around to prepare and create excitement for the upcoming game and dance.
As the week ended, the atmosphere still remained lively, and filled with anticipation as the homecoming game and dance arrived. While the month of October quickly comes to an end, this week gave all students the chance to come together show off their pride of being a Nole.
