Tales told at the meeting meant for bookworms, here are the stories of this assembly.
Noles book club had their first meeting, the interest meeting, this past Tuesday, August 26th! This is the club’s 3rd year going, and it has been picked up by two IB sophomores. Anya Priyadarshi, one of the co-presidents, is really excited to be a part of running the club this year. Here’s what she had to say about her new role: “I’m super pumped to run book club and hope to see many people attend throughout the year.”
During the meeting, a few things were discussed. Interest meetings typically cover the basics of a club and what is expected throughout the year and that’s exactly what happened at this meeting. Well, for this one, there was something extra. Since it is a book club, a book needs to be selected to read throughout the month. This is chosen by the members at the start of the month through a poll. The options were Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson, Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood, The Accidental Hero by Matt Myklusch, The da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, and The Grace Year by Kim Ligget. The majority vote went to Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson making it the book the members would read for the upcoming month.
A couple of things members can expect for the upcoming year are snacks whose themes are based on the books, games, and discussions with friends as they travel through new realms. Adrianna Mclaughlin attended the meeting and had some insightful thoughts about it, mentioning what she hoped to see saying “future meetings should have a definite end time and games to play.”
This meeting also brought on the selection of a new secretary, IB sophomore Aaliya Lakha, who said she “hopes to bond with people who also love books and keep everyone organized.”
Information on the club, whether it be the book of the month or when the members are meeting next can be found on their Instagram @bokey_bookclub. The next meeting date has been decided to be September 30th. Overall, the first meeting was pretty successful and anticipation from the members and officers is high as they prepare for their next gathering.
