Only one day before Seminole High School’s (SHS) Homecoming, the Seminoles take on previously undefeated Spruce Creek High School.
The first quarter of the game was relatively uneventful, only stopping the clock briefly for a timeout. Players on both teams pass the ball across the field, Spruce Creek making three consecutive third downs, yet neither team scores. Despite the blank scoreboard, the student section brought the enthusiasm to show their support for the team.
During the first quarter, SHS Cheerleaders brought out a ring toss game which included a large inflatable dice that was thrown around the student section. At the beginning of the second quarter, Spruce Creek scored three points, making the scoreboard 3:0. Seminole catches the ball at ten minutes 27 seconds in at the 46 yard line, but the previously undefeated Spruce Creek team tackled the player.
The resilient Seminoles scored at the four minute mark during the second quarter, making the scoreboard an even 3:3. Three intense minutes later, Spruce Creek scores right before the end of the quarter, raising the scoreboard 9:3.
The halftime show consisted of the band and colorguard field performance, as well as the announcing of homecoming king and queen. The senior court included Camryn Peters and Trey Wilson, Abigail Bennet and Timothy Samples, Maya Bell and William Heilman, Miah Owens and Lionel Southward, and Reagan Prepetit and Beauraq Aqeil. Miah Owens and Lionel Southward won homecoming king and queen!
The third quarter did not look promising for the Seminoles, as they did not score, had only three points, and received a 15 yard penalty only four minutes in. Spruce Creek did not score during the third quarter either.
However the Seminole made a comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring a touchdown with two minutes left in the quarter. The two teams were now tied 10:10, exciting the student body.
Due to the tie, the game went into overtime. It does not take long before Seminole makes a touchdown, bringing the final score to 16:10.
The team was proud of their win and their comeback during overtime. Seminole player Brandon Sim says “winning the point felt good, and we knew we could win.” Another player, Milton Roebuck states “winning that extra point felt crazy. We knew we were going to get the ball back from the other team and the chance to win the game. We fought all other games for this win”
Congratulations to the Seminoles on their win, and happy homecoming!
