On this recent Tuesday of October 28th, senior class council hosted the first movie night of the year for our graduating class of 2026! Seniors gathered at the KWC at 7:30, dressed in comfy clothes and with blankets to celebrate the spooky season. Class council came early to decorate the lobby and prepare concessions for students to buy, selling things like cotton candy, popcorn, cookies, drinks, and more! They also offered free spider rings and vampire teeth to boost the Halloween spirit.
The movie that class council decided on was the Nightmare Before Christmas. This story is perfect for the upcoming holidays featuring both Halloween and Christmas. It contains iconic characters and catchy songs, serving as a classic Tim Burton film.
The movie begins with the Halloweentown’s Pumpkin King Jack Skellington expressing his boredom of the routine of scaring people in the real world every Halloween. As he ventures into the trees, he finds doors that lead to other holiday themed worlds. Jack enters the Christmas door into Christmas town and is shocked to find out how different it all is compared to his town, so he brings his findings back to Halloweentown. After sharing this with all of the town, he decides to take over Christmas for the year and assigns all the town folk jobs to make it happen. Sally, a creation by the doctor of the town, receives a vision of the Christmas plan leading to disaster, but is dismissed by Jack. Jack then assigns a trio of trick-or-treaters to abduct Santa. However, when they do bring him back to Halloweentown, they decide to hide him with Oogie Boogie, Jack’s rival. As Jack goes to the real world delivering presents, he is seen as a threat to the nation and is shot out of the sky, leading to Halloweentown thinking he is dead. Sally goes to rescue Santa but ends up getting captured too. Jack, however, is not dead and comes to the realization that although he enjoyed the experience, he found his love for Halloween again and has more planned for the next year. He returns to Halloweentown and rescues both Sally and Santa, defeating Oogie Boogie in the process. The movie ends with Santa saving Christmas and Jack and Sally sharing their love for one another.
“We were between two movies, one movie being the Nightmare Before Christmas and the other being Hocus Pocus. All of the senior class council voted on a google form for which movie we wanted. I voted for “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and it ended up being the winning movie!” Senior class council member Prisni Nawala shares the behind the scenes. “As far as now, I don’t know if we will be doing another movie night because this one was not as successful as we had planned for it to be. With this also being a new thing and in previous years there only being one movie night per year, I don’t know if seniors will have any more. If we were to do things differently, we would definitely advertise it earlier and plan more ahead of time due to last minute decorations and there being confusions, such as people thinking concessions were free and us having to figure out prices right then and there.”
Even if you ended up missing this movie, make sure to be on the lookout for either another future senior movie night or one where everyone is welcome!
