With quarter three’s end in sight, the long-awaited spring break is almost here for students! Spring break is from Friday, March 13th, to the 22nd, and serves as a reward for students after the week of exams beforehand. Everyone has at least one thing planned for spring break so far, so let us check out what everyone is up to!
The one certain plan for spring break is, of course, to hit up the beach! With the go-to beaches being New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach, they are sure to be crowded this break. Whether you visit to see the sunrise, swim and tan during the day, see the sunset, or all three, adding the beach to your to-do list is essential!
If you’re looking for local things to do, you can always check out Downtown Sanford, Lake Mary, or Winter Park for weekly events! Every Saturday, each of those towns has its local farmers market happenings with local vendors selling food, art, crafts, and much more! Exploring these cities, checking out the shops, and getting a bite to eat is the perfect adventure for the day.
Another fun little adventure can be taking the SunRail, whether that be to Winter Park, Orlando, or even Sanford! Taking the train is always a fun new adventure, along with whatever stop you choose to get off at! Seminole High School (SHS) senior Sofia Antonio says she plans to “take the sunrail to Winter Park with my friends this spring break. Last year, we also went on the train during break and it was so much fun. We are planning to take cute pictures, try out a restaurant, and check out all the shops. I also want to find a cute photobooth in the area. I can hardly wait for spring break to start!”
A fun day trip could also be visiting a theme park! Central Florida is full of theme parks such as Universal, Disney, and Funspot. SHS senior Prisni Nawala shares her plans this break: “I plan to use up some of my Funspot tickets I bought from the summer sale. Last summer I went to the Kissimmee Funspot, but this break I plan to go to the Orlando location. I also plan to get my outfits for concerts I’m going to later this year, for example The Neighbourhood. My final goal for spring break is to just take the time to rewind and make a plan for the rest of my senior year to go as smoothly as possible.”
This year, one of the largest conventions, MegaCon, falls on the last weekend of spring break from March 19th to the 22nd at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The whole event revolves around comics, sci-fi, anime, gaming, cosplay, and fantasy; it is for anyone and any interests. One of the highlights of the event is the celebrity panels, where guests have the chance to meet some of their favorite actors or voice actors. Some celebrities attending this year include John Cena, Director John Carpenter, The Lord of the Rings actors Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, and Liv Tyler, Lost actors Dominic Monaghan and Josh Holloway, Star Wars actors, Star Trek actors, Stranger Things actors, and many more! Tickets are still currently available for anyone interested in going, whether you are looking for a single-day admission or a 4-Day weekend pass!
