America’s favorite weekend filled with friends, screaming, and food: Super Bowl Sunday. Super Bowl LX took place this past weekend on February 8th. This year’s showdown was between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. The half-time show starred Bad Bunny and, surprisingly, Lady Gaga. Many expected him to bring out Cardi B or Daddy Yankee, but neither performed with him. Others expected Shakira whose 2020 half-time performance featured Bad Bunny. No matter who came out for the performance, it was definitely a memorable one.
The game this year was quite unexpected. Not only did people not expect the Seahawks to ever make it so far, the game itself was pretty uneventful. The Seahawks started to gain a lead with a score of 19-0 up until the middle of the fourth quarter. Eventually, somewhere during the fourth quarter the Patriots started to rack up points, but only made it with 13 by the end. Most people got bored around halfway through the game. IB sophomore Anya Priyadarshi agreed with this saying that “it was a pretty uneventful game.”
The part unlikely to have been seen as boring was the half-time show. People were hyping it up ever since it was announced that Bad Bunny would be performing. His performance was made up of a maze built with people in bush costumes. The sweetest part was that the people who played the bride and groom in the performance actually got married during the show. Noticeable faces in his entourage included Cardi B, whose boyfriend Steffon Diggs was playing, Pedro Pascal, Karol G, and others who have gone viral.
Another key part of the super bowl was the ads. Companies pay millions of dollars for a five second clip shown in the middle of the game. What makes these more expensive is the celebrities featured in them. Faces spotted included Tate McRae, Sabrina Carpenter, and Snoop Dogg. Some celebrities were spotted in the crowd including Justin and Hailey Bieber, Jay-Z, and the new hot topic Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton. Continuing on the F1 topic, Cadillac had a five second clip somewhere after half-time revealing their livery for the next season keeping fans at attention throughout each ad break.
While this year’s game may have lacked some oomph, other parts that make Super Bowl Sunday Super Bowl Sunday followed through. Who knows, maybe next year will have something more interesting in store.
