One of the most anticipated events of the first half of the school year is coming up- homecoming. Some key aspects of this fun week include the homecoming football game, homecoming court, and of course spirit week. This year Seminole High School’s (SHS) theme is Nolechella.
Spirit week starts on Tuesday October fourteenth and ends on Friday October seventeenth. The themes will be 2016 Dream, Wild West vs. Neon Fest, Stage Fits Only, and Bokey Headliner. On Tuesday, students are supposed to dress up as their favorite meme from 2016. On Wednesday, students will dress up in either a country outfit or a neon one. Thursday will bring on an onslaught of celebrity outfits as students will be dressing up as their favorite artist. The final day of the homecoming spirit week will be Friday where students will dress up in Bokey colors to show their school spirit.
Many students from all grades and programs are excitedly awaiting homecoming and spirit week. IB sophomore Nitya Duddella hopes to “dress up on every spirit day,” and is super excited to attend her first homecoming. Nitya feels that “this is a really good theme,” and the themes for the spirit days “seem fun.” Another IB sophomore, Charvi Batchu, is also “really excited to attend homecoming,” as this is her first homecoming as well.
Every student has a different interpretation of what each of the spirit day themes actually mean and what they are going to wear. Nitya thinks her favorite theme will be Wild West vs. Neon Fest. She plans on wearing a full neon outfit, including a neon pink shirt, and she is going to “bring glow sticks.” It is always amazing to see people showing their school pride while having fun with their friends at the same time.
The homecoming dance will be held on Saturday October fifteenth. Just as every year before, there will be a homecoming court. Currently it is not known who will be on the court itself, but nominations will be opening on September twenty-second and will be closing on the twenty-sixth. The rules for nomination campaigns are pretty strict this year. One of the main rules that everyone is talking about is that campaigns have to be word of mouth only. To find out the specifics of the rest of the rules check out leadership’s Instagram page @seminolelead. Each nominated couple will consist of one male and one female. There will be two nominated couples for the freshmen, three nominated couples for the sophomores, four nominated couples for the juniors, and five nominated couples for the seniors.
Tickets are going to cost $50 starting on September twenty-second, and after the twenty-ninth they will be $60. Ticket sales will officially close on October fifteenth. In order to attend, a student must be in good standing meaning they haven’t had OSS, have no credit denials from the previous school year, have no outstanding detentions or Saturday schools, and a 2.0 cumulative unweighted GPA. If a student has an outstanding detention or Saturday school, it needs to be served before their respective date in order to attend homecoming.
To enter on the day of, students need to present their Minga. Students can also bring guests by filling out the form and buying the ticket which will be $60. Guests need to present their GoFan ticket and picture ID to enter.
Make sure to keep up with homecoming information as it is constantly being updated. Remember to buy tickets on time and stay as a student in good standing, so no one misses out on the fun!
