A group that forms sisterhood, friendship, and definitely a sense of belonging. Young Women of Excellence (YWOE) is a group that was made to give diverse young women a chance to speak their mind and to grow comfortably into who they are. You grow into the best version of yourself and learn from your mistakes without anyone judging you. This open, diverse group not only improves yourself but builds really strong friendships and relationships with the people around you. The opportunities to build relationships with people comes from the numerous community events Ms.Thomas and Ms. Hyde, the teachers of YWOE give out.
Elisa Holmes, senior and the president of YWOE shares “I joined in 9th grade because I wanted to surround myself with positive people and be part of something that helps me grow and learn things about myself that i didn’t know before!” She shares how since freshman year she has had the chance to grow into a strong and independent young woman because of this group/club. Holmes also says “I think it makes a positive difference because it shows young women that they have value, and it motivates us to be leaders and role models in and outside of school.”
Being part of YWOE gives the school a chance to see that that students deserve second chances. As adolescents we make our mistakes but this group takes your mistakes and turns them into successful opportunities. Kailani Williams, junior says “The effects I’ve gathered from this club is the sisterhood you become a part of once you join YWOE, the way you present yourself and the respect you gain for not only yourself but others around you.” Williams also shares: “YWOE to me means an organization where all kinds of women can unite and support each other through each of our successes.”
YWOE is a support system and especially helpful in a world full of chaos. Having a consistent group that understands your point of view and helps you evolve into a role model to those around you is an amazing support system. This organization makes it their daily goal to help young women to strive to be the best version of themselves and become successful. Both Holmes and Williams said “YWOE is like a safe space where I can grow as a person and connect with other young women who want to be their best selves… I can go to people I trust for advice.”
YWOE also has an open door for many scholarships, even if the scholarships are not just for YWOE. The teachers for this club don not allow you to miss an opportunity to take a step forward for your future. Whether it is a scholarship for enlisting in the army or for going to college, YWOE offer so much assistance for your future it is hard to miss a great opportunity. For example at least a few times a month many guest speakers come and share their experience in life, like the navy, army, and cosmetology. This gives the students views of the world and what their future may look like if they choose a certain path. Young women of excellence builds young diverse ladies into strong women who figure out who they are or who they are going to be.

It is amazing how you, Ms. Thomas and Ms. Hyde, have poured your life, experiences, and resources into these young ladies. Their lives will never be the same, but will be incredibly blessed because of your strength and your vision to make each child a better person.
