TEBOW TANKS QBR: This writer is tired of Tebowmania

Forget the wins in the fourth quarter. Forget everything Tim Tebow has done in college. Look at the facts. Tim Tebow is an inefficient quarterback! He can’t throw a consistent spiral; he has a slow release, and can’t run a conventional offense without turning the ball over.

QBR is a system where they give a quarterback points based on a number of different categories such as clutch, sacks, completions, etc. To give you a reference point, 50 is average, the scale is 1-100, and Josh Freeman (in his second season playing all 16 games) had a QBR of 63.5.

Tim Tebow’s QBR this season was 31.425! The only reason why it was so high is because his 55.5 QBR in the fourth quarter. In the second quarter his QBR is 17 and in the third it’s 15.2! I understand that the fourth quarter is the most important, but it doesn’t matter if your team is down by 30 because you threw 4 interceptions.

That leads me to my next peeve about Tebow; losing the ball. In the last eleven weeks of the season no player fumbled the ball more than Tebow’s thirteen or lost as many with his six. This is coming from a quarterback not a running back. As a quarterback you are expected to protect the football as much as you can.

It’s hard enough not to throw interceptions to the other team but to cough it up just by a guy coming up behind and swatting it out of your hand. You have to be better than that. One reason this happens is due to the fact he takes too much time getting the ball out of the pocket. Half a second is the difference between a 25 yard pass and a fumble.

The one thing though that is the most discouraging is Tebow’s inability to control emotions on the field. This is the difference between college and professional. Freshman Jose could not have said it better when he said Tebow “cries”. What kind of leader does that! I don’t see Peyton Manning go to the sidelines after throwing a pick and start balling.

We see him sit down, get a little frustrated, and learns from his mistake. He gets over it. This writer does not want to flip on his television and see the “Crying Broncos” take on the “Cheating P…” that’s a different story.

I want Tebow to be good. If he goes on to have a long career then guess what Blake was wrong. But please stop telling me how awesome he is when he hasn’t exactly accomplished anything.
