LITTERBUG: keep the beaches clean this summer.

This summer when the waves are just right, the sun is sublime, and everyone is heading over to the beach, it is important to keep the sand and the ocean clean by making sure no trash it left behind.Along the shores if New Smyrna beach and Daytona beach, the two most popular destinations for Seminole High School students, are a great deal of trash cans and recycling bins that should be used. Not only is littering bad for the environment but there is also nothing worse than going somewhere to relax and be surrounded by trash.
There are many negative environmental implications to littering on the beach. First off, litter is a hazard to all wildlife since many plastics could choke or suffocate birds or marine life. In addition, small containers that are discarded carelessly can trap small mammals. Sophomore Leila Gramm tells The Seminole “I try to pick up cans and plastics bags when I’m at the beach because I don’t want them to pollute the water.”
All trash should be disposed of correctly but specifically plastics, aluminums, and other kings of metals have to be discarded with care since they are the leading cause of wildlife deaths.Besides the environmental effects, there is the less important but equally valid negative image that litter leads to. The beaches are hot spots for tourists from all over the world specially living in the “sunshine state” therefore, it is vital for the Florida economy that the beaches look clean and inviting. No one enjoys going to a beach that is full of trash which is why the government employs people to clean the beaches but the more trash there is, the more the government has to spend on removing the litter from the environment. This can often lead to higher entry and parking costs which then anger many frequent beach goers.
If everyone would pick up after themselves and make sure that all type of trash, organic or non-organic, goes in the correct bin, the beaches would look beautiful.
