SUMMER FUN: creative activities for those hot and sunny summer days.

Teenagers spend a good amount of their summer vacation complaining about how there is nothing to do. The words “I’m bored” are used almost everyday. Summer can seem boring if there is “nothing” to do. However, summer can be a time when people can experience new things and go new places. If money for a getaway vacation is a problem, then there are plenty other fun activities to try.

There are countless outside activities to try for all those sunny and sweltering hot days. Swimming or lying by the pool can be cooling and relaxing. A nice day at the beach is also a fun summer activity. Junior Brittney Bermudez says, “I love going to the beach and playing volleyball or collecting shells.” Playing beach volleyball, collecting seashells, building a castle, or enjoying the beautiful scenery of the beach will make the day turn from dreadfully boring to very exciting.

Florida is a beautiful and tropical place. Otherwise why would so many tourists come here? Orlando, Mount Dora, St. Augustine, and many other towns are just a short drive away from Sanford. Orlando offers enthralling amusement parks like Disney and Universal. Mount Dora offers good food, vintage shops, and art museums that are a must to visit. St. Augustine is a great historic town to visit. Senior Kayley Ellis says “St. Augustine is one of my favorite places to go. It’s so much fun and I love the ghost tours.” The ghost tours are frightening and adventurous and the historic forts are a fun way to learn about Florida’s history. What would be better then discovering Florida and all its natural beauty?

Visiting all the Florida sites can get tiring after a while. Taking a short break and enjoying other activities will be just as fun. Staying in and reading a good book is a classic way to spend those lazy summer days. Sophomore Edgar Deleon says, “Reading is a fun way to spend a boring day.” Staying in can also is a good way to work towards a personal goal. Maybe exercising more, writing a book, starting a band, or watching some good movies.

The summer is the perfect time to learn a new skill. Taking a painting or art class can increase creativity. There is the possibility of learning a new instrument and discovering some musical talent. Learning how to dance anything from ballroom to hip hop is a fun way to spend a hot day and exercise.

One thing is for sure however, if teenagers just sit around watching television and complaining all day, then there is no way summer will be fun. But trying new things will transform the summer into a spectacular adventure. Discover Florida and discover yourself; don’t let the summer pass by uneventfully.
