SEMESTER 2 OVERVIEW

SEMESTER+2+OVERVIEW
Abra Stalker

After a long, well deserved break for students and staff at Seminole High School (SHS), it’s time for us to jump right into our second semester of the 2023-2024 school year!

With the start of a new year, 2024 brings along a whole new agenda for third and fourth quarter, which means that there are a lot of campus events and important dates to look forward to and prepare for within the next few months. This brief overview will include a few of the most significant upcoming functions at SHS that students will want to include in their schedules.

Prom

The most anticipated night of the year for nearly every high school student is fast approaching, and it’s an event that nobody will want to miss! Seniors and juniors alike will be whisked away to the dance floor in their best-dressed attire to celebrate their milestones and enjoy themselves one last time as a high school student before they walk the stage.

“What I’m most looking forward to would be getting all dolled up, having fun with friends, and ultimately just enjoying my last high-school prom,” SHS senior A’rianna Fleming expresses. “I have some plans, like I know that I want to bring a friend as my guest so she can have the prom experience since she’s in online school. Last year, my sister and I got a hotel for the weekend, so my friend and I might do the same.”

As of right now, there is no date set for when prom will be held, so stay tuned for information in the near future

Spring Musical

The SHS theater program has certainly pulled out all the stops this year, with their fall performance of “All My Sons,” as well as their thespian troupe’s award winning one act “The Night Witches.” This semester, the production “Mamma Mia!” was chosen as this year’s spring musical, which will be performed April 18th through April 21st.

If anyone is interested in playing a role in this show, auditions are being held January 16th and 17th! Anyone with a passion for theater or any form of performing arts can try out and earn a chance to become part of something special while having nothing short of a blast.

SAT & Final Exams

The end of the year is approaching faster than we know, which means that it’s nearly time for upperclassmen to take the SAT, a standardized assessment that will boost their chances of getting into a good college or university if they score well. The period between late April and early May will also consist of regular quarter exams, including EOCs (end of course) that must be passed to graduate, as well as the final exams for advanced placement (AP) courses that require a good score to earn a credit for that year.

“I feel prepared for my final exams. The material isn’t easy, but I study a lot,” explains SHS senior Melia Gibbons.

While you may be out attending football games and school dances, it’s very important for students to focus on raising their GPA, which includes taking good notes in class, turning in assignments on time, and blocking out time to study for every small quiz or big exam. It’s especially important to push through during this time, as most students will want to give up towards the end of the term due to burn out or exhaustion. Consider getting help from a tutor, or create a weekly schedule to help with time management.

It’s safe to say that semester two will certainly be a busy one, with an equivalent balance of academic events, special extracurriculars and celebratory activities. There’s a lot to look forward to, so make sure to stay tuned for more information as dates get closer. As always, go Noles, and good luck!
