Here are some of the scholarships listed in this article ranging from McDonald’s hacer scholarship to a greeting card one!

It’s the new year and new scholarships that students can apply for are now available! Usually around the beginning of the year, seniors have finished applying for colleges. However, scholarships are still available for most sophomores, juniors, and seniors. 

A scholarship is a “grant or payment made to support a student’s education, awarded on the basis of academic or other achievement.” It’s important to apply because scholarships can help you pay in college. 

Here are some scholarships available for students (These scholarships have a due date so make sure to check them and have your applications submitted by that deadline):

  • Engebretson Foundation Scholarship: awarded to one student who demonstrates financial need and impressive academic performances and leadership. They are giving $5,000. The deadline is March 1st.
  • Phyliss J. McCarthy Scholarship for Excellence in Writing: for juniors and seniors you have to write a poem or an essay to apply. They are giving $1,000 and the deadline is July 23rd.
  • Cameron Impact Scholarship: awarded to ten to fifteen high school students who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, academic, extracurricular activities and community service. The award is a four year full ride to college and the deadline is September 10th.
  • Flavor of the month Scholarship: students must write an essay describing what flavor of ice cream they would be and why. They are giving $1,500 and the deadline is late July.
  • Top 10 List Scholarship: students must write top 10 reasons why they should get the scholarships. The winner is awarded $1,500 and the deadline is late December. 
  • Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision Science Competition: 10th through 12th grade students must submit a STEM related project to enter the competition. The prize of the winner is $10,000 and the deadline is early February.
  • Unigo Scholarship: students must write an essay no more than 250 words on the topic Imagine a historical figure is brought back to life. Who is it? What’s their favorite mobile app? The award is $10,000 and the deadline is late March.
  • Hach & Rose, LLP Annual College Scholarship: Senior students must write an essay with the prompt “Your life was touched in some manner by an individual who was hurt in an accident caused by someone else’s negligence. Tell us how the event impacted your life, and what you learned or how you have grown as a result.” The award is $10,000 and the deadline is mid May.
  • Create-a-Greeting Card Scholarship Contest (Gallery Collection Scholarship): Students must submit a photo, piece of artwork, or computer graphic to be used on the front of a greeting card.The winner is awarded $10,000 and the deadline is March 2nd.
  • Doodle 4 Google: Students must submit a Google Doodle related to this year’s theme. The National winner is awarded $30,000 and the deadline is mid March.

These are just a portion of the many scholarships that are out there. Make sure to do your research to find one that’s best fit for you and don’t pass up the opportunity to apply for  scholarships. Anyone can apply, and they are helpful for college. Take that chance and find your scholarship now!
