WRITERS CLUB

Here at  Seminole High School (SHS), there are around 4,000 students. With that many students comes a multitude of clubs that students participate in. Some clubs that are held at SHS meet after school and some are before. The differences in timing give various opportunities to students to get involved in their school. Clubs are a great way to have students put their full input into bettering their school. The result of this give students the feeling of contributing to their community in a significant way.

The Writers Club is a club that gives students who enjoy writing the opportunity to be in a space that supports their creative outlet.. Having a space like this to write freely assists in helping students feel more included into the work that they produce  when they are at school. Most of the time, schools do not give students the opportunity to experiment with their writing styles and their own beliefs. School restricts the students to write in one particular format or use one particular style. The Writers Club is entirely different. The club allows students to express themselves through their writing freely without feeling the harsh writing boundaries of the school system. The school is an after school club. This group is also fairly new. The club started in January of last year. The club also has an Instagram page. Their Instagram page encourages students to get excited about the club and informs them of what they are up to. It also inspires students to bring a friend or peer along with them to the next meeting coming up.

The Writers Club has around 88 followers on Instagram. It definitely is a club that is growing in popularity rapidly. The club meets in the upstairs of the Health Academy building in room 207. A student can also join the club on the app Remind if they want more information and updates. This helps if they want to be more involved in the club’s progression. The club meets a couple of times in the month.

Since the club is after school, it gives the students something to look forward to. School days can definitely be boring and/or exhausting. Having something to look forward to makes all the difference. It can change a student’s mood and even perception of school. It paints schools in a better light and encourages students to enjoy and value their education. It also gets them excited for their future.

In addition to the club’s exciting students, it also prepares them for the future. Aanya Shah, a junior IB student, said, “I’m a co-president.. some of the activities we do in writers club are participating in local writing competitions where members can win scholarships and have fun activities where students can improve their writing skill.” It helps with the future.

Liyana Ahmed, IB junior agrees with this by saying: “My experience with the writers club has generally been positive, but I would like to do more and be excited for when it starts up this year. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys writing and wants to step out of their comfort zone and challenge themself.”

The Writers Club has definitely made an impact on SHS. It is not just there to be a fun place to hang out after school, but it is also something that can help an individual flourish in their future. The writers club was originally supposed to be on Tuesday, October 3rd. It has been rescheduled to the 10th of October, but we are very excited to see what the Writer’s Club entails this year.
